Known as 'NUMMI', New Unified Motor Manufacturing Incorporated was established in Fremont in 1984, and is the largest employer in the city today, with 4,603 employees. A joint venture between General Motors and Toyota, NUMMI currently produces three award-winning vehicles: Toyota Corolla, Toyota Tacoma and Pontiac Vibe. In the past, the plant has also produced the Nova, the Toyota FX, the Chevrolet Prizm, and the Toyota Voltz. Fremont Unified School District is the second-largest employer in the city, with 3,615 employees. LAM Research Group, producing semiconductor processing equipment, is the third-largest employer in Fremont, with 2,077 employees. Other major employers include HMT Technology Corp, Washington Hospital, Seagate Magnetics, the City Of Fremont, and Sysco Food Services.
